Nakaya has created a variety of art projects at her school under the inspiration of art teacher, Richmond Smith. Her projects include sculpture using non-traditional materials, batik, clay sculpture, self-portraiture, and impressionistic painting. This will be the first time Nakaya will take a class at Richmond's Studio which was a hope of hers.

Richmond's Studio offers Art Education for children and adults with a specialization in contemporary fine art. Half-day summer camps run June through August.

"The mission of this program is to promote learning of the fine arts using traditional and contemporary techniques in order for the student to create their own unique artwork through this instruction. More than anything else, our teachers wants to show all students that art is something that can make them happy throughout their entire life. Not only can they experience this happiness through the process of creating new artwork, but each student will come away from a class by looking at the world from a different perspective." ~ Richmond's Studio located in Phil Mechanic Studios

The right opportunity presented itself to award Nakaya with the scholarship. At the time, Dulcita Love did not know that Nakaya had already hoped to participate in a class at Richmond's Studio.

Dulcita Love Consulting has been involved in community projects that give children the opportunity to expand their cultural experiences and learn about preserving the earth's natural resources. Other projects include a Pops for Penguins fundraiser, Moss Garden Installation, Hands of Hope service project, Imagine Asheville Arts Extravaganza, and the Asheville International Children's Film Festival.
